THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Wednesday night with a Northeast 10 matchup on the road vs the Bentley Falcons. The first quarter was a back and forth battle but Bentley used a strong second quarter to pull ahead for the rest of the evening. The Hounds got to within four points of making the comeback but Bentley hit important free throws to close out the game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Bentley went on an 11-2 run over the first five minutes to open the game, but after an Assumption timeout the Hounds put up a quick nine points in just about a minute. Sophmore guard Amanda Mieczkowski (Hadley, Mass. / Northampton) put up six in the first quarter and finished the day with 18, while Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) hit two three pointers in the first to get the Hounds within two headed into the second frame. 

-Bentley pulled away in the second quarter with around five minutes left to go until halftime going on an 18-2 run to close out the half to put Bentley up 42-26 at halftime. 

-Monica Spain (Braintree, Mass. / Archbishop Williams) put up eight of her 15 points on the night in the third quarter. While Ella Thompson led the Falcons with 18 of her 25 points coming in the second half. 

-The Hounds were able to pull within four points on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter but Bentley made five of six free throws in the final 30 seconds to hold on to win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Assumption was 27-58 (46.6%) shooting on the night while Bentley went 28-56 (50%)

-The Falcons outrebounded the Hounds 38-23. 

UP NEXT  

-The Hounds are back home on Saturday, December 4 with a NE10 matchup against Saint Michael's College. Tip off is set for 1:30pm.
