-The Lead: The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Monday evening with a non conference matchup on the road against the Lions of Georgian Court. The Hounds led 23-20 going into the half but the Lions out scored Assumption 20-9 and fought off a Hounds comeback to secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Anna Shaugnessey (Attleboro Falls, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) led the Hounds with a double double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. With nine of her points coming in the first half to help the Hounds hold a 23-20 lead going into the break.
-The Hounds led by as many as seven after a Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) three pointer stretched the lead to 30-23 in the third quarter.
-The Lions went on an 8-0 run over the next five minutes of the third and took the lead and went up 40-32 going into the final frame.
-The Lions were able to fend off the Assumption comeback leading by as many as 11 in the fourth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Georgian Court won the rebound battle, outrebounding the Hounds 46-39.
-Monica Spain also put up 11 points for the Hounds.
