THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon with a Northeast 10 conference matchup with Saint Michael's college. The Hounds went on a big run in the second quarter to take a 27-20 lead heading into halftime. The Hounds stretched their lead to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter and came away with the victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Saint Mikes jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first five minutes but the Hounds battled back to make it 14-10 after the first. 

-Assumption went on a 15-0 run  to take the lead and go into halftime up 27-20. 

-Anna Shaughnessey (Attleboro Falls, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) led the Hounds in the second quarter with five points and four rebounds off the bench. 

-Amanda Mieczkowski (Hadley, Mass. / Northampton) had eight points in the third with Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) and Caterina Fonseca (Enfield, Conn. / Enfield High School) each had five points.

-Assumption stretched their lead to 53-35 thanks to a Monica Spain (Braintree, Mass. / Archbishop Williams)

-Fonseca scored four more in the fourth to finish the day with a team leading 13 points to help the Hounds secure the 59-49 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Purple Knights outrebounded the Hounds 40-36. 

-Assumption was 21-64c(32.8%) shooting on the day while Saint Mike's was 18-52 (34.6%)

-The Hounds are back in action on Tuesday, December 7 with a Northeast 10 conference matchup at Stonehill College.
