THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption University men's ice hockey team continued their season on Thursday night with a non-conference matchup with Westfield State University. The game was tied at one heading into the second and the Hounds took a 2-1 lead heading into the third, but the Owls tied it in the final frame to send the game to overtime and scored on the powerplay to give the hosts the victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption took the lead halfway through the first period when Elliot McGuire (Reading, Mass. / Truro Bearcats)  scored on helpers from Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings) and Jimmy McDermott(Dubuque, Iowa / North Iowa Bulls) .

-The Owls tied the game minutes later when Cody Morris scored on an assist from Peter Izzo. 

-The Hounds took the lead in the second when Matt Keohane (Quincy, Mass. / Boston College HS) scored on an assist from Christopher Stalmok (Paxton, Mass. / Boston Jr. Bruins)

-The Owls tied the game with five minutes remaining in the third when Wyatt Lawrence scored with assists from Justin Collins and Dan Long.

-The Owls won a powerplay at the end of the third and skated four on three for overtime and scored with under a minute in from Jason Diamond on assists from Justin Collins and Dan Long to create the 4-3 final. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Hounds outshot the Owls 41-30 on the evening. 

-The Owls won the battle at the faceoff dot 42-36. 

-Drew Benedict fell to 1-1 on the season making 27 saves on the night. 

UP NEXT  

-The Hounds are back home after the holiday break on January 3 with a non conference.
