-The Lead: The No. 4 ranked Assumption University field hockey team continued their 2021 season at American International College in their first Northeast-10 Conference game of the year on Tuesday evening. The Greyhounds used strong defense to secure their second shutout of the season and improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in NE10 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Assumption put the pressure on in the first half, registering eight shots going into halftime and winning six penalty corners.
-Senior Jenna Graf (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) lead the Hounds with 4 shots.
-At the 41-minute mark in the third period, senior Summer Walsh (South Yarmouth, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season on an assist from classmate Lucy Malia (Scarborough, Maine), to give the Hounds a 1-0 lead.
-Assumption continued to keep the pressure on offense putting up six shots in the second half.
-The Hounds defense allowed just four shots throughout the game and senior goalkeeper Kylie Gargiulo (Madison, Conn) made four saves to secure the shutout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-The Hounds outshot the Yellow Jackets 21-4 (11-4 shots on goal).
-The Hounds were awarded 12 corners while the Yellow Jackets were awarded two.
-Gargiulo and the Hounds defense posted their second shutout of the season.
