-The Lead: The Assumption University field hockey team ran away with a dominating, 5-1 victory over the Falcons of Bentley University in non-conference action on the road on Wednesday night. The Greyhounds improve to 2-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Greyhounds came out strong with a goal just over three minutes into play. Assumption was awarded a penalty corner and senior Isabel Primack (Ipswich, Mass. / Ipswich) dished the ball to her classmate Lucy Malia (Scarborough, ME / Scarborough) who found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
-After a scoreless second period, the Hounds added a goal at the 35-minute mark off another penalty corner play. Malia knocked it in from 12 feet out, off a feed from her classmate Jenna Graf (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa).
-Bentley got on the board with a goal by junior Ava Bevilacqua off a rebound shot to bring the hosts within one with three minutes to play in the third period, 2-1.
-Primack scored back-to-back goals to open up the fourth period for the Greyhounds and push them ahead by three, 4-1. The first goal was assisted by senior Deirdre Burchill (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) and the second was off another corner play, this time dished out by senior Kileigh Hynes (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn).
-First year Mia Salah (Gloucester, Mass. / Gloucester) scored her second goal of the season just over three minutes later to push the Hounds ahead, 5-1. Salah beat Bentley's goalkeeper, Mia Trottie, as she came out of the net to defend the ball.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Malia and Primack led the Hounds on offense with two goals each in the victory.
-Bentley outshot Assumption 16-11 in the contest and were awarded 19 penalty corners to Assumption's 11.
-Senior Kylie Gargiulo (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand) made five stops in net for the Greyhounds and improves to 2-1 on the season.
-Trottie made four saves for Bentley and falls to 1-2.
UP NEXT
-Assumption is back on the road on Tuesday, September 14th when they travel to American International College for their first NE10 contest of the season. Game is set for 7:00 p.m.
