-The Lead: The Assumption University men's ice hockey team continued their season on Tuesday afternoon a Northeast 10 conference matchup versus the Hawks of Saint Anslem. The game was a fast pace high intensity matchup with both goalies making big saves at key moments in the game to keep it close. Saint A's scored first in the dying minutes of the first and the Hounds stormed back with two early third period goals within 30 seconds of each other to beat the Hawks and secure their third conference win in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Saint A's opened the scoring with two minutes left in the first when Will Christensen scored when the Hounds failed to clear the puck out of their zone and the puck bounced to Tommy Schwartz who slid a pass to Christensen who's initial shot was saved by David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones) but the puck bounced of a Hounds defender and in to give the Hawks the lead with under two minutes to go in the first.
-The Hounds responded to tie the game in the third when William Smith (Hyde Park, Mass. / Williston Northampton School) won the puck along the boards in the corner of the Saint A's defensive zone and slid the puck to junior defenseman Collin Montgomery (Natick, Mass. / Valley Junior Warriors) who was waiting at the blue line and Montgomery walked it into the slot and fired a wrist shot to beat Nick Howard and tie the game at 1-1.
-The Hounds responded seconds later when Mike D'Ambrosio (Centreville, Md. / Boston Junior Bruins) fired a pass from the Assumption defensive zone to Christopher Stalmok (Paxton, Mass. / Boston Junior Bruins) who used his speed to break into the Hawks zone and fired a shot to beat Howard and give the Hounds the lead.
-The Hawks would pull their goalie and skate 6on5 for the final 1:20 but could not beat Altman and the stingy Hounds defense who would hold on to win the game 2-1.
