THE BASICS

-The Lead:  The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon after a long lay off due to cancellations and rescheduled games and were back on home court with a Northeast 10 conference matchup with the Yellow Jackets of American International College. The Hounds led 27-21 going into the half and led by as many as 14 in the third quarter but an AIC comeback in the fourth quarter which saw them score 23 points helped the visitors to victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

- AIC scored the first seven points of the game over the first four minutes of the first quarter but the Hounds chipped away and took the lead two minutes into the second quarter thanks to Ja'Lyn Armstrong (Baltimore, Md. / The Institute of Notre Dame) who sunk back to back free throws to put the Hounds up by 1. Lauren Hammersley (Garden City, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy Academy) and Anna Davis (Ipswich, Mass. / Proctor Academy) would combine to score ten points in the second quarter to give the Hounds a six point lead going into halftime.

-The Hounds stretched their lead to as many as 14 thanks to an Emme Poulin (South Portland, Maine / Cheverus High School) three pointer with five minutes left in the third quarter. 

-The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle for the first five minutes and AIC would tie the game  and then take the lead thanks to a Nora Young's two made free throws. 

-Davis would tie the game at 48 with just a little over five minutes to play but then the Yellow Jackets would go on a 11-6 run to close the game and beat the Hounds 59-54.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Hounds went 17-50 (34%) shooting on the night while AIC was 20-60 (33.3%)

-Both teams went 15-18 (83.3%) from the foul line.
