THE BASICS

-The Lead:  The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Monday afternoon with a thriller vs the Setters of Pace University. The game was a back and forth battle all night with the final minute of the game seeing four lead changes and the host Setters taking the victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Pace got out to an early seven point lead in the first quarter but the Hounds chipped away and tied the game with four minutes in the quarter but Pace went on a 9-3 run to close the quarter and go up 16-12.

-The Setters grew their lead to as many as 11 in the second quarter but again the Hounds chipped away and went into halftime down by eight. 

-The start of the third quarter saw some back and forth action but the Hounds took over and went on a 16-3 run over six minutes and tied the game but also took the lead with Anna Davis (Ipswich, Mass. / Proctor Academy) contributing seven points tying the game and taking the lead on two converted free throws. 

-Assumption grew their lead to as many as five in the final frame, with a made three pointer from Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) gave the Hounds a 56-51 advantage with just over three minutes to play. 

-After Pace responded with a three pointer from Lauren Hackett, Cramb sunk two free throws to give the Hounds a four point lead with under 30 seconds left in the game but the Setters responded with a three pointer from Katumina Mansaray to make it a one point game. 

-Hackett then stole the ball from Assumption and took it to the basket for the layup and a one point lead but Amanda Mieczkowski (Hadley, Mass. / Northampton) hit a jumper with five seconds left to put the Hounds up by one. 

-A costly foul with one second left on Assumption allowed Pace to go to the line and Naya Rivera sunk both free throws to give the Setters the 63-62 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Assumption was 23-64 (35.9%) shooting on the day while Pace went 24-65 (36.9%)

-The Hounds outrebounded Pace 37-36. 

UP NEXT

-The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, January 19 with a home contest versus Adelphi in a Northeast 10 conference battle. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.
