THE BASICS

 -The Lead:  The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Wednesday evening with conference matchup versus the Panthers of Adelphi. The game was a tight contest, with the score even at 24 headed into halfime. The visitors outscored the Hounds in the third quarter and were able to hold on to their lead, thanks to late free throws to close out the victory for the Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The first quarter was air tight, with both teams trying to find a feel for the game. Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) gave the Hounds their first lead of the game two minutes into the second quarter after she sunk a three pointer. 

-Marina Callahan (Burlington, Mass. / Burlington) would help give the Hounds their biggest lead of the evening of five when she got the basket and hit the free throw to complete the three point play and put the Hounds up 24-19. 

-Adelphi would respond by hitting two free throws with just over a minute left to send both teams tied into the halftime break. 

-Four different Panthers would contribute in the third quarter helping push the visitors to a six point lead heading into the final frame. 

-Korina Guerra and Rebecca Lee would score six points each in the fourth, and Lee would lead the Panthers with a double double on the evening consisting of a team high 17 points and 13 rebounds. 

-Cramb scored seven of her team high 15 points in the fourth, getting the Hounds within four points with under a minute to play. 

-The Panthers would hit six straight free throws to ice the game and give the visitors a 55-45 win in the contest. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- The Hounds outrebounded Adelphi 46-44.

-The Hounds are back in action on Saturday, January 22 with a road contest versus New Haven. Tip off is set for 1:30pm.
