-The Lead: The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Thursday night with a conference matchup versus the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose. Assumption took a ten point lead into the half and was able to hold onto the lead and give them their third conference win in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Assumption jumped out to a 6-1 lead over the first four minutes thanks to four points for Ja'Lyn Armstrong (Baltimore, Md. /Institute of Notre Dame)
-Saint Rose's bench would score 13 of the teams 14 points in the first quarter.
-Emme Poulin (South Portland, Maine. / Cheverus High School) would lead the Hounds with five points in the first quarter.
-The Hounds would see six different players score in the second quarter to outscore Saint Rose 24-11 in the quarter, led by Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) who had seven.
-The Hounds would increase their lead to as many as 16 in the third with Lauren Hammersley (Garden City, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy Academy) would sink two free throws.
-Amanda Mieczkowski (Hadley, Mass. / Northampton) would score eight points in the fourth quarter to give her a team high of 15 points on the night.
-Four of the Hounds starters would score double digits. Armstrong would finish with 12, Cramb would finish with 14 and Marina Callahan (Burlington, Mass. / Burlington) would register another double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Assumption would shoot 26-67 (38.8%) outshooting Saint Rose 24-64 (37.5%)
-The Hounds would win the rebound battle 51-35.
