-The Lead: The Assumption University men's ice hockey team continued their season on Friday evening with a Northeast 10 conference matchup versus the Eagles of Post University. The game saw Post take an early lead in the first with Assumption scoring back to back goals in the second, and Post tying it late in the second. With no scoring in the third, the game went to overtime where the Hounds found an early goal and gave them their fourth win in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Post started the scoring early about four minutes into the game when Patrick Murphy scored on a wrister that beat graduate goaltender David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
-Assumption tied the game early in the second period when Devan Sheth (Ashland, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club) scored a shorthanded goal assisted by Dante Maribito (Georgetown, Mass. / Phillips Academy) and Mike D'Ambrosio (Centreville, Md. / Boston Junior Bruins).
-The Hounds took the lead halfway through the second when senior captain John Fine-Lease (Willsboro, N.Y. / Walpole Express) scored on assists from Alexander Mavrogiannis (Dover, Mass. / East Coast Wizards) and Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings).
-Murphy scored his second of the night for the Eagles tying the game late in the second on assists from Brandon Crowther and John Krapian.
-The third period saw the Eagles outshoot the Hounds 13-6, but Altman stood tall in net stopping all 13 shots and sent the game into overtime.
-Dara Conneely (Arlington, Mass. / Phillips Andover) would score the winner for the Hounds just over a minute into overtime with the assist coming from Holyoke to give Assumption their fourth win in a row.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Post would outshoot the Hounds 38-32
-The Eagles won the faceoff battle 51-32
-Altman would make 32 saves on the night, improving his record to 6-3-1.
