Box Score THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption University men's ice hockey team continued their season on Monday afternoon with a non conference matchup against the Knights of Neumann University. The Knights poured on three first period goals and another in the second to go into the final period with a score of 4-1. The Hounds scored a minute into the third and created high opportunities to mount a comeback but the Knights scored on the powerplay halfway through the third to shut the door and achieve the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Neumann opened the scoring four minutes into the first when Luke Croucher crashed the Assumption net hard and slipped a shot by David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cylcones)
-Croucher scored his second later in the first period when the Knights spoild an Assumption clearing attempt and Barry Kneedler fired a pass to Nick Martino in the front of the net and Martino slid it over to a wide open Croucher who one timed it past Altman to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
-The Knights increased their lead to three with two minutes left in the first when Dionne Demke won a faceoff in the offensive zone and slid it back to Dillon Manchester who fired a wrist shot off of Altman and in to give the visitors a 3-0 lead headed into the first break.
-Neumann stretched their lead to 4-0 with five minutes left in the second when Tyler Kulas took a pass from Hunter Litman, giving the Knights a 2on1 break and Kulas elected to shoot and beat Drew Benedict (Cooper City, Fla. / Charlotte Rush) on his blocker side to increase the visitors lead.
-Assumption responded with two minutes left in the second when Ronny Paragallo (Huntington, N.Y. / New Hampton School) fired a shot off the faceoff and Devan Sheth (Ashland, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club) was there to bury home the rebound to get the Hounds on the board.
-The Hounds responded quickly in the third period, scoring a powerplay goal just a minute in when Mike D'Ambrosio (Centreville, Md. / Boston Junior Bruins) took a pass from Dara Conneely (Arlington, Mass. / Phillips Andover) and fired a shot past the Knights' Pantalone to make the score 4-2.
-Neumann iced the game with just around 10 minutes left in the game when Nick Martino scored on the powerplay off a pass from Richie Brusco to create the 5-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Assumtpion out shot Neumann 38-31.
-The Hounds also won the faceoff battle, winning 41 draws while the Knights won 31.
