Men's Ice Hockey Scores Four Goals In The Third Period To Beat Post

THE BASICS

-Score: Assumption University 6, Post University 3

-Records: Assumption University (9-7-1, 6-3 NE10), Post University (6-12, 4-7 NE10)

-Location: Shelton, Conn. (Sports Center of Connecticut)

-The Lead: The Assumption University men's ice hockey team continued their season on Monday afternoon with a Northeast 10 conference matchup versus the Eagles of Post University. The game saw Post take a lead in the first with Assumption tying the game in the opening minutes of the second, Post retook the lead minutes later, but the Hounds responded and tied the game shortly after. The Hounds would score four goals in the third period, with the game winning goal coming via the powerplay and adding two empty netters to lift the Hounds to their fifth straight victory.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Post started the scoring with seven minutes left in the first when Michael Karas scored on assists from John Arziszewski and Connor Barter.

-Assumption responded early in the second period when William Smith (Hyde Park, Mass. / Williston Northampton School) scored on an assist from Jared Bernis (Melrose, Mass. / Boston Junior Rangers)

-Post responded minutes later when Connor Barter scored on a wrap around that took a deflection and beat David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones)

-The Hounds immediately tied the game a minute later on a Dante Maribito (Georgetown, Mass. / Phillips Academy) goal coming from an assist from Dara Conneely (Arlington, Mass. / Phillips Andover Academy)

-Post scored a goal with 12 minutes remaining in the third when Kieran Gardner took a pass in the slot set up by Jack Engdahl and Evan Lugo and Gardner wristed it by Altman to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. 

-The Hounds again tied the game with eight minutes to go when Ronny Paragallo (Huntington, N.Y. / New Hampton School) took a pass from Lucas Crawford (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) and Paragallo beat his defender and fired a shot past Drew Blodgett to even the score at 3-3. 

-The Hounds took the lead minutes later when Devan Sheth (Ashland, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club) buried a powerplay goal on rebound goal off of a shot from Maribito to give the Hounds a 4-3 lead. 

-Maribito would add an empty net goal on an assist from Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings) with 40 seconds to play and Smith would add another insurance goal on an assist from John Woernle (Wellesley Hills, Mass. / The Tilton School) to give the Hounds a 6-3 conference victory and their fifth win in a row. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Eagles outshot the Hounds 42-40. 

-Assumption won the faceoff battle 38-30. 

-Altman would make 39 saves on the day to improve his record to 7-3-1. 

 

UP NEXT  

-The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, February 2nd with a non conference matchup versus Worcester State at the Worcester Ice Center. Puck drop is set for 3:40pm.
