Leonard's OT Heroics Makes it Six-Straight for Field Hockey

WALTHAM, Mass. – Christina Leonard picked an excellent time for her first collegiate goal, as she lifted the Assumption University field hockey team past Bentley University in overtime, 1-0, Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams played a close contest that didn't see many scoring chances. The Greyhounds outshot Bentley 2-0 in the opening 15 minutes, but the Falcons outshot Assumption in the second quarter (3-1). Coming out of the break, the Blue and White controlled the second half, as they fired seven shots to just two for the hosts.
In the overtime period, the Greyhounds would create a breakout opportunity. Mia Salah slipped the ball past the last defender, finding Leonard, who beat the Bentley keeper, winning the game for Assumption.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kylie Gargiulo recorded three saves for Assumption to record her third-straight shutout.
  • Gargiulo has extended her shutout streak to 221:48, which dates back to September 21st against New Haven.
  • Assumption outshot the Falcons 11-6 while having five penalty corners to just three for Bentley.
  • Bentley still leads the all-time series 46-15-1, with the Greyhounds winning the last five meetings.
