HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds started on the front foot, piling together a couple of chances in the first fifteen minutes without being able to break the deadlock. The first chance for the home side would come just after the 18:42 mark, as
Julia Walsh got a right hand to a header from a Chargers corner kick. Finally, Assumption would break the deadlock at the 30:17 mark into the first half as
Haleigh Ward got on the end of a cross from
Kate Carleson to make it 1-0. Assumption would strike again about four and a half minutes before halftime as
Rose Connolly already assisted
Kate Carleson for her fifth goal this campaign.
Only 9:10 into the second half, Carleson almost recorded a brace as she hit the lower left post on a breakaway. Walsh continued to make some saves in the following minutes to withstand the Chargers' pressure. Ward would then be next to try to get a brace as her breakaway was saved in the 25th minute of the half. The Chargers would cut the lead in half at the 81:36 mark as
Madison Blonde tucked it under Walsh. New Haven kept up the pressure into the last seconds, but the Greyhounds would hang on to pick up their third conference win.
