HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was controlled by the hosts, as they shot 50 percent from the field while also holding Caldwell to 0-for-8 from deep to run out to a 39-30 lead.
The Cougar slowly chipped away at the deficit and eventually got within two (43-41) following a Mark Heber at the 16:49 mark, but that was short-lived. Kyle Hicks knocked down a free throw, and
Cooper Creek nailed a three; the lead quickly expanded back to six (47-41). Caldwell refused to go quietly, as they got to cut the deficit down to two points following a pair of free throws by Darnell Evans (58-56, 8:47). The Greyhounds would eventually pull away down the stretch as Assumption hit their final six shots from the charity stripe to secure an 82-72 opening night victory.
