Pace Upsets Field Hockey in NE10 Quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University field hockey's bid to repeat as the Northeast-10 Conference champion came to a halt as the No. 2 seeded Greyhounds fell to the No. 7 seeded Setter of Pace University in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
Score: Pace University 2, No. 6 Assumption University 1
Records: Greyhounds (14-5, 11-2 NE10) | Setters (12-7, 8-5 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first quarter, the majority of the action was played in the middle part of the field, as neither side was able to establish their offense. Assumption was the only team to take any shots, but Alina Buerger kept the host off the board. The Greyhounds upped the pressure in the second quarter, as they outshot the Setters 8-1 while also taking seven penalty corners in the 15-minute period. The score would remain tied after 30-minutes of action.

Pace started the scoring early in the third quarter, as Kate Demars capitalized on a penalty corner as she would sneak a shot through the Greyhounds' defense. Ten minutes later, Assumption would find an equalizer as Mia Salah recorded her eighth goal of the year. The Setters took the lead with nine minutes remaining in regulation, as they once again scored off a penalty corner, with Noelle Meij registering the go-ahead goal. Despite a late push by the Greyhounds, Pace would hold off the rush and upset Assumption.
