WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team controlled the majority of the action from the tip in Worcester, as they used a 23-point first quarter to propel them to a 61-54 win over Franklin Pierce University in their Northeast-10 Conference opener Wednesday evening

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds jumped out to a commanding lead in the 1st quarter, going into the breakup up 23-16.
Amanda Mieczkowski led the way with eight points, while Assumption was shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Assumption entered the second half with a 31-24 lead, after a very defensive second-quarter standoff.
Monica Spain had four steals for the Greyhounds in the first half to really hold off the Ravens as they tried to push to close the lead.
Grace Leary and
Teagan Curran contributed well off the bench, combining for 13 points.
The third quarter was an even contest, with both teams scoring ten points. The Ravens cut the lead down to as much as three, but the Greyhounds were able to get it back up before the last ten minutes of action. Better controlled offense and more stops on defense pushed the Greyhounds all the way to the last minute, which allowed them to pick up a big conference-opening victory at home.
