WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 10 Assumption University women's basketball team used a 17-4 run in the fourth quarter to remain perfect on the year, as they defeated the University of New Haven 55-42 in Northeast-10 action, Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the early portion of the first quarter, the two teams traded baskets. It wasn't until New Haven led 9-6 (3:42) that the Greyhounds went on a 9-1 run that stretched into the second quarter. Assumption would maintain the lead for the remainder of the first half, as it would grow as large as nine points (26-17, 0:39) following a pair of free throws by
Molly Stokes. The Chargers would get within six points following a buzzer-beating halfcourt shot from Gabrielle Sickles.
Coming out of the break, the Greyhounds extended their advantage to 11 points (36-25, 5:04) following a driving layup from
Ja'Lyn Armstrong. UNH closed the gap with an 11-2 run to close out the third quarter, which sent the two teams to the fourth, with Assumption holding on to a 38-36 lead.
After a slow start to the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds went on a 17-6 run in the frame to pull away and win their ninth-straight contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Marina Callahan led all scorers with 15 points, while Molly Stokes (14) and Monica Spain (13) also recorded double-digit points.
- Amanda Mieczkowski added five points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block to her stat line
- The Greyhounds held New Haven to a season-low shooting percentage of 34.0 percent
- After being outscored in the third quarter, it was just the fifth time all year that an opponent has outscored the Greyhounds in a single quarter.
