-The Lead: The Assumption University men's ice hockey team continued their season on Saturday evening with the tail end of a home and home highly anticipated matchup between the top two teams in the NE10. SNHU jumped out to a 3-0 lead over two periods and the Hounds made a valiant comeback effort scoring three in the third but the Penmen added an insurance goal on the powerplay to secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-SNHU opened the scoring five minutes into the first when Jack Gray put home a pass from Travis Quigley.
-The Penmen made it 2-0 on a goal from Andrew Ray who fired a slapshot past David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones)
-George Thurston put the hosts up 3-0 halfway through the second.
-Assumption responded in the third period, scoring two goals in under a minute, Ronny Paragallo (Huntington, N.Y. / New Hampton School) scored a shorthanded goal to put the Hounds on the board and 40 seconds later Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings) scored to get the score to 3-2.
-Ryan Coady tipped in a shot on the powerplay halfway through the third period to make it a 4-2 game.
-Paragallo got his second of the game with under a minute left burying a goal against traffic in front of the net to make it a 4-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Hounds outshot the Penmen 38-20.
-Assumption also won the faceoff battle 49-28.
