BOSTON, Mass. – Junior sprinter Anthony Spignese (Danvers, Mass.) posted a pair of runner-up performances in leading the Assumption University men's track & field team to an 11th-place finish among 22 scoring programs at the New England Championships over the weekend. The Greyhounds finished with 20 points.
Spignese placed second in the 60-meter dash in 6.92 seconds and in the 200 by navigating the track in 21.58 at the annual championship event which was held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Senior Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore Noah Laren (Blackstone, Mass.) also scored the Greyhounds and joined Spignese as All-New England performers. Santos finished seventh in the 60-meter high hurdles, hitting the tape in 8.69, while Laren matched the feat in the heptathlon. Laren most notably won the 1,000-meter run in 2:46.88 and finished second in the high jump by clearing 6-feet, 2.25-inches.
Assumption will travel to compete at Boston University's Valentine Invitational next weekend.
