LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Claudio Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) won the 5,000-meter run to headline a list of four top-three finishes by the Assumption University men's track & field team at the George Davis Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell over the weekend.
Rocha captured one of the long distance events by punching in a time of 15:08.02, which was more than 11 seconds faster than the rest of the field. Senior Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I.) was also third in the 110-meter high hurdles, finishing in 15.19 seconds.
The Greyhounds also got a pair of runner-up performances in the sprinting events. Freshman Tre'Sean Bouie (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished the 400-meter dash by circling the track in 49.15, and sophomore Kobe Anderson (Hartford, Conn.) anchored a 4x100-meter relay that notched a mark of 43.12. The group also included juniors Dante Echeandia (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Martin McMahon (Worcester, Vt.) as well as Bouie.
In the field, Assumption's top placing came from Ryan Burns (Danville, N.H.). The senior finished 12th in the discus throw with a mark of 123-feet, 9-inches.
Assumption will next compete at Holy Cross on Tuesday.
