Men's Track & Field Places 19th At New England Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Tre'Sean Bouie (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I.) each broke school records as the Assumption University men's track & field team placed 19th among 40 scoring schools with 15 points at the New England Championships over the weekend.

Southern Connecticut State easily captured the team title with 170.5 points, while Rhode Island finished in a solid second with 114 points. Massachusetts (52) and MIT (35.5) rounded out the top four at the championship event being hosted by Bryant University.

Bouie placed fourth in the 400-meter dash by navigating the track in 47.35 seconds. In addition to lowering his program standard, the mark provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Championships. Santos' mark of 14.51 in the 110-meter hurdles was also good for fourth place overall in his premier event.

Another notable performance was made by Claudio Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). The junior placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run by punching in a time of 31:13.04 and was named All-New England for finishing in the top eight of an event along with Bouie and Santos.
