NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Tre'Sean Bouie (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I.) each broke a school record as the Assumption University men's track & field team concluded the first day of action at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships in eighth place with six points on Friday at Stonehill.
Southern Connecticut State ended the day far and away in first place with 107 points through seven scoring events, which more than double second-place American International College's 49 points. Franklin Pierce (33) and Stonehill (31) round out the top four in the team standings.
The Greyhounds picked up points in three different events. Senior Samuel Baker (Bedford, Mass.) placed eighth in the long jump by leaping 21-feet, 2.75-inches, while junior Anthony Farago (Salisbury, Mass.) and freshman Dominic Bonanno (South Windsor, Conn.) finished sixth and eighth in the javelin throw with tosses of 167-9 and 151-0, respectively. The 4x800-meter relay team consisting of freshman Aaron Pelletier (Glastonbury, Conn.), classmate Charles Driscoll (Unionville, Conn.), Farago, and senior Nik Reygadas (Warwick, R.I.) wrapped up the scoring by placing eighth in 8:11.97.
Santos and Bouie were among three Greyhounds to advance to finals races on Saturday in their respective events. Having already broken the school record in the 110-meter hurdles twice this spring, Santos accomplished the feat again by hitting the tape with the second-fastest time in the field in 14.65 seconds. Bouie established a new program standard in the 400-meter dash for circling the track in 48.14 seconds, which was also tops among student-athletes at the meet, and he also advanced to the finals in the 200 by punching in a time of 22.12. Senior Kyle Belmonte (Charlton, Mass.), meanwhile, advanced to the finals in the 400 hurdles for registering a time of 56.62.
Assumption will conclude competing at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday.
