Men's Soccer Ties Saint Michael's in NE10 Opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – Gustaf Vilgot Albert registered his first collegiate goal as the Assumption University men's soccer team opened Northeast-10 action with a 1-1 tie against Saint Michael's College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the majority of the action from the opening whistle, as they maintained a large amount of the time of possession. Saint Michael's was able to counter the Greyhound's pressure with a coast-to-coast goal in the 27th minute. Amos Schramm corralled the loose ball and went 50 yards up the field before passing the ball over to Jack Andrews, who drove home the game's first goal.

AU eventually got on the board in the second half, as Gustaf Vilgot Albert registered his first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute. Albert found the back of the net with a right-footed shot, which Johannes Sundgot assisted.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • George Dixon IV recorded four saves for the hosts.
  • The Greyhounds outshot the Purple Knights 21-14, while SMC had one more corner (7-6).
  • Saint Michael's now leads the all-time series 20-12-6.
