Records: Greyhounds (13-2, 7-2 NE10), Falcons (11-4, 8-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The action started a bit slow, emphasizing defense from both sides. As the quarter went on, the Falcons started to get things going, as Maggie Whitmore converted a three-point play after being followed at the rim. A flurry of turnovers, including misplaced passes and travels, forced a quick timeout by the Greyhounds down 14-8 with 2:57 left in the quarter. The end of the first would have been perfect for Bentley, but
Ja'Lyn Armstrong attempted to swing things back for the Greyhounds, knocking down a buzzer-beater jump shot to go into the break, down 19-12.
Assumption started to find a groove in the second quarter as they stepped up defensively. Armstrong led the charge, as her layup at the 7:33 mark cut the Bentley lead to five. The remaining minutes of the first half was back and forth, with either side making a slight run, followed by the opposition making a run of their own. Whitmore's second three with 35 seconds was the cherry on top in the first half, as the Falcons ended the half on a 10-3 run, leading the Greyhounds 39-27.
Kylie Ducharme completed a three-point play at 6:46 to keep the lead at 12 in the opening stages of the third quarter. The Greyhounds, who haven't been losing much at all this season, continued to try to chip away. After five minutes of action,
Marina Callahan scored all six Assumption's points in the second half, trailing 47-33. Assumption struggled for the remainder of the quarter as they tallied 17 turnovers through the game and found themselves trailing 60-39 with ten minutes remaining.
Bentley was comfortably controlling a 20-point lead at the start of the fourth. No other Greyhounds besides Armstrong could reach double figures, and the lead continued to grow until the final whistle. A commanding effort by the Falcons at home saw them walk away with a 76-48 win, handing Assumption just their second loss on the season.
