Men's Soccer plays to a 0-0 tie against Saint Anselm

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's soccer team provided the pressure for the full 90 minutes but could not find the back of the net as they tied the Hawks from Saint Anselm College on Sunday afternoon at Normand R. Marois '57 Field.

THE BASICS

Score: Assumption University 0, Saint Anselm College 0

Records: Greyhounds (2-5-1, 0-3-1 NE10) | Hawks (3-4-3, 2-1-2 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hawks and Hounds fought neck and neck from the opening whistle. The defenses for both sides appeared impenetrable, as neither team would take a single shot until Assumption was rewarded with a free kick nearly seven minutes into the contest. Johannes Sundgot pressured the visitors' goalkeeper, although his free-kick shot attempt was saved. Daniel Paulsson had an excellent chance at a rebound off of the save, although Saint Anselm collected Paulsson's shot. The Hounds and Hawks traded several attempts, although the defense for both sides remained solid. Assumption got another great chance at opening the scoring. Sundgot crossed right to Timothy Tkacz, although the header attempt missed wide right. The Hawks had several opportunities to close the first half, although the Assumption defense held firm. Each side took nine shots, with Assumption leading shots on goal six to three. However, each team remained scoreless in a 0-0 first half of action.

Assumption had the best chance in the second half right out of the gate, but Alejandro Correal saved Jan Siegel's point-blank shot. The Hounds continued to try and attack but were flagged offside multiple times on very close attacking moves. Iver Sjåvåg stayed strong in the net, making strong air claims to prevent the Hawks attackers from getting on the end of any crosses. Despite good pressure until the end, neither team could find the back of the net, and the contest ended 0-0.
