THE BASICS

Score: Assumption University 1, Molloy University 1

Records: Greyhounds (2-5-1, 0-3-1 NE10) | Lions (1-7-2, 0-2-1 ECC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Assumption came out on the flat foot, conceding a foul in their own box and giving the Lions a penalty shot just two minutes into the contest. Captain Nicolay Kutztop stepped up and slotted it home, putting the visitors up 1-0. Assumption would control most of the first half following that, as they took nine shots compared to three from the Lions. The best effort came from Jorgo Karamelo, who turned inside and fired his shot, which Dennis Mejia saved. Despite most possession, the Hounds could not capitalize and went into the break trailing 1-0.

In the second half, Assumption continued to apply pressure, but the Lions started to create more chances of their own. The game became very physical, with yellows being shown and play being stopped on multiple occasions. With time running out, Joey Bianco had a rocket right-footed volley saved by Mejia, the best chance for the home side. Right at the death, with only 40 seconds remaining in the game, Assumption had a quick throw-in. Jan Siegel clipped in a deep ball, which found the head of Vegard Pernes, who scored and tied the game for the Hounds. Essentially, on the last kick of the game, Assumption overcame their missed chances and pulled out a point against the Lions, drawing 1-1.
