Field Hockey rolls past Franklin Pierce, 6-1

WORCESTER, Mass - The Assumption University field hockey team took care of business and remained undefeated in conference play as they beat Franklin Pierce University 6-1 Tuesday evening at Brian Kelly Stadium.

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 6, Franklin Pierce University 1
Records: Greyhounds (9-4, 8-0 NE10), Ravens (5-6, 4-4 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Assumption got on the front foot early, scoring through Elle Murray as she got her fourth on the season, and Callie Beauparlant provided her the assist. Despite a quarter of controlling the game, Assumption would only hold a one-goal lead into the second quarter.

Lily Daly would grab her ninth on the season as her solo effort capped off a great pass from Chloe Kaeller. Only five minutes later, Caroline McSweeney continued her strong start to the season as they put home a pass from Beauparlant. The Hounds capitalized in transition mainly through their forward play and carried a three-goal lead into halftime. At the break, the home side held a 3-0 lead.

Franklin Pierce came out stronger in the second half, scoring the first goal through Silver Clukey, whom Rebecca Phillips assisted. The Greyhounds immediately responded through May van Woudenberg, whose unassisted effort beat the goaltender. The fourth quarter was all Assumption, as van Woudenberg scored again, Elle Murray added her second, and they extended their lead to 6-1. That would be the final, as the Greyhounds improved to 9-4 and 8-0 in conference play.
