WORCESTER, Mass – The Assumption University women's volleyball team fell to Pace University in a five-set marathon, as the Setters took the Northeast-10 Conference match 3-2 Tuesday evening in Laska Gymnasium.

Records: Greyhounds (6-7, 1-3 NE10), Setters (9-5, 2-3 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pace University started on a 3-0 run as Assumption settled into the first set. The Greyhounds used a five-point run to tie things up at 7-7, off of a kill from
Tatiana Calderin. The remainder of the set was back and forth until a four-point swing from 19-17 to 22-17 pushed Assumption into prime position, as they closed out the set at a 27-25 score off of a kill from
Madison Lupino.
It was apparent Assumption had momentum off of the first set victory, as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead off of an attacking error from Pace. The Hounds strung five straight points off kills from
Anna Dean,
Sophia Kane, and
Alexis Distasio to go up 16-6. The Greyhounds would easily win the second set 25-17.
While the third set started stronger for the Greyhounds, the Setters converted seven straight points to go up 14-8. While Assumption kept it back and forth from that point, Pace maintained their single-digit lead. Two kills from Brielle Jones provided momentum for the visitors as they took the third set 25-18.
In a critical fourth set, it was neck and neck, as a Lupino kill made it 5-5. Assumption strung out six straight points to go up by three, but the Setters responded with a three-point run. The Hounds held a 20-17 lead, but the Setters went on an 8-2 run, including the last five points, to win the fourth set 25-22 and swing momentum in their favor.
With momentum and energy on their side, the fifth set was all Pace. They stormed out to a 7-2 lead, which was too much for the Hounds to come back from. Pace closed out the victory with kills from Daniella Abbastante and Jones to complete the five-set comeback victory 3-2.
