Men's Soccer picks up a point at Saint Rose, 3-3

ALBANY, NY - The Assumption University men's soccer team struck for three goals on the road against The College of Saint Rose but split the points in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saint Rose got out on the front foot, as Jose Clemente slotted one past Iver Sjåvåg in goal, who put the Golden Knight up 1-0. Before that, Johannes Sundgot and Axel Gerremo had chances that Leopold Dufaut denied. It took the Greyhounds twenty minutes to respond, as Peter Hasund connected with his former youth teammate Sundgot to score, which was the last big play before halftime. The Greyhounds were tied with the Golden Knights 1-1 at the break. 

After Clemente had another chance denied by Sjåvåg, Sundgot put the Hounds in front off an assist from Joey Bianco, and the Hounds had a 2-1 lead at 57:09. Less than five minutes later, Hunter LePage made it 3-1 and added an insurance goal for the Hounds. Seven minutes later, Lucas Malmquist got the Golden Knights within one, and then it was Saint Rose trying until the death to tie the game. With less than one minute to go, Bianco committed a foul in the box, giving Saint Rose a penalty. Hilmar Halldorsson stepped up and slotted it home, tying up the game with the last kick of the game. It would end with the Hounds and the Golden Knights tied at 3-3. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  •  Hasund and Sundgot now have four goals each year, while LePage scored his first goal in his career.
  • Saint Rose edged the shots at 14-9, while nine went on goal for the home side and seven for the visitors.
  • Sjåvåg made six saves in goal.
  •  Assumption is now 14-8-4 all-time against Saint Rose
