HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set started close, while Adelphi began to separate at 5-3 with a kill from Brenna Valsted. The Panthers made it 11-6 through Anna Oden as the Hounds fought to keep the first set close, calling a timeout once Adelphi grew the lead to 16-10. The Hounds started on an 8-2 run out of the timeout, forcing the Panthers into another timeout. Adelphi played sloppy again out of the timeout, allowing three straight points and dropping their lead to only one. The Panthers kept their cool and closed out the first set with a score of 25-23.
Adelphi opened up the second set with three straight points, but Assumption answered with a run and scored 4-3 for the Panthers. The Panthers continued some sloppy play, and the Greyhounds pounced on the chance to tie the second set at 9-9 and force an Adelphi timeout. The Greyhounds defense kept them in the match, as they dug out almost every kill attempt from the Panthers. Madison Lupino got involved, as her kill at 17-17 set up an exciting finish to the second set. Adelphi put together a couple of crucial points, taking a 23-22 lead and forcing a timeout from Assumption. Assumption would drop the second set 26-24 despite holding a set point.
Like the second set, the visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third. After a long run of Panthers points, Assumption finally got one back but still trailed 15-5, forcing Stephanie Kazmierczak into a timeout. Assumption battled, forcing a back-and-forth run that saw the score sit at 20-11 in favor of Adelphi.
