HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill came out of the gate early, scoring at the 6:17 mark through Peyton Wise, who put one behind Carissa Mudrak off the scramble in front. Only three minutes later, Paige Whaley doubled the lead for the Skyhawks on the power play. Assumption responded less than a minute later, as Alexa Hanrahan carried the puck into a wrist shot and buried it on even strength. The score at the end of the period would remain 1-1 despite heavy Assumption pressure.
Stonehill came out aggressive in the second, scoring halfway through Kathryn Karo after dominating the opening minutes of play. Despite shots fired by Lilly Corso and Rachel Agerter, they couldn't beat Hanna Zukow in the net. With only seven seconds remaining in the period, Whaley got her second in the game to put the Hawks up three. The third period was a battle, with many penalties and power plays across both sides. With less than two minutes remaining, the visitors put an exclamation point on the net with their fifth goal through Maeve Carey, once again on the man advantage.
