HOW IT HAPPENED
American International College came out strong in the first set, going on a 9-1 run at 12-10 to take a 20-11 lead. Despite Assumption grabbing a couple of points to get it closer, the Yellow Jackets would close on a four-point run to take the first set 25-13.
The home side appeared to be the stronger side early, sparking an 8-3 lead into the second set. Madison Lupino picked up a pair of kills, and Julia Manzella and Carly Goodhue fought back to get Assumption down three at 12-9. It was back-and-forth for a while, as the Hounds did well to contain the Yellow Jackets and not let them rip off another considerable run. However, after a kill from Alexis Distasio, the home side scored five straight to close the second set and bring it to a third with a chance to close in three.
In the third set, AIC looked to close out quickly, sparking a 12-2 run to open the set as they attempted to suffocate the Hounds. Despite Assumption's best efforts, they could not string together enough points, as kills from Kristina Peric and Victoria Soto Burgos brought the lead up to 22-6. American International College would close it 25-12, winning the match in three sets.
