HOW IT HAPPENED
Marina Callahan was the hot hand to start, scoring on two back-to-back layups.
Molly Stokes opened her year with a three - the team's leading scorer last season - however, Post responded with a jumper of their own to tie the game at seven apiece. After a back-and-forth first quarter, Assumption pulled away a bit with a Stokes three, leading 19-14 after one.
Post battled back and even took a slight lead as Naj White completed the old-fashioned three-point play to put the Eagles up one at 6:02 remaining in the half. Assumption was able to respond with a small run of their one, as Callahan converted on a layup and a three-pointer to bring her to 18 first-half points already. The Hounds closed the half on a 12-0 run, leading 44-28 into the break, with Callahan closing the half on a free throw.
The Greyhounds kept their foot on the gas to try and stretch the lead early into the second half, with Callahan continuing her red-hot day with a three and
Amanda Mieczkowski knocking down the jumper to go up 53-36. Post battled, but the Hounds got more players involved, with
Emma Dahl grabbing some rebounds and
Teagan Kamm converting on a score to push the lead up to 22. Assumption took a 66-42 lead into the final quarter of play.
With a commanding lead, Assumption would see out the game comfortably and keep the lead the entire time. The Hounds would unload the bench and rest the starters as they cruised to a commanding win in their season opener, 80-59 on the road.
