MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Assumption University field hockey team's season has come to a close, as the Greyhounds fell to the top-seeded East Stroudsburg University 3-0 in the NCAA Division II Semifinals at Grappone Stadium on the campus of Saint Anselm's College Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the action early in the first quarter, as they earned the game's first corner two minutes in. East Stroudsburg was the first team to score, as Grace Lesh redirected the hard hit from the top of the circle by Lia Parker at the 6:27 marker. The Warriors went up 2-0 with 4:04 left in the first, as Minke Klijn scored off a long pass from Jady van Gils in the midfield.
The Greyhounds had a scoring opportunity early in the second quarter, as they were awarded a penalty stroke off a
Mia Salah attacking chance.
Callie Beauparlant took the stroke, but the ESU netminder, Amy Supey, saved it. Neither team could find the back of the net, as the game would head into the break with ESU up 2-0. The Warriors would outshoot the Greyhounds 12-6 in the opening 30 minutes.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Greyhounds had an early scoring chance, as
Julia Carbone earned a corner, but Supey saved
May van Woudenberg's shot from the top of the circle. The Warriors responded with four straight penalty corners, but the Assumption defense stood strong.
Mia Salah had an excellent scoring chance off the rush, but the ESU netminder made the stop. East Stroudsburg extended their lead to 3-0 as van Gils redirected the midfield pass into the corner of the cage.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Paige Gillette recorded seven saves in the cage for the Greyhounds.
- East Stroudsburg outshot Assumption 23-7 while having a 13-2 advantage in penalty corners.
- This is the third straight season that the Greyhounds have reached the national semifinals, and the second consecutive year, they fell to ESU 3-0 in the final four.
- The Warriors still lead the all-time series 6-2.
