No. 4/5 Women's Basketball suffers first loss of the season at Saint Rose

ALBANY, NY – The No. 4/5 Assumption University women's basketball team fell on the road to The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday evening 62-55 in Northeast-10 Conference action.

THE BASICS

Score: The College of Saint Rose 62, Assumption University 55

Records: Greyhounds (3-1, 1-1 NE10), Golden Knights (1-1, 1-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Assumption had a quick 4-0 start, but Saint Rose answered with six points on their own. It was a back-and-forth affair for the first ten minutes, with a three-pointer from Grace Leary giving the Hounds a slight lead going into the second quarter at 13-12.

Assumption was struggling from the field and committing multiple turnovers, allowing Saint Rose to keep a slight lead throughout the first half. Syrita Faraj converted a layup right before half, which was responded to by a Marina Callahan jumper, giving the Golden Knights a one-point lead at the half, 25-24.

It was a quick start to the second half, with Payton Graber knocking down a three and Catherine Finnerty making a jumper for a quick five-point lead, which was responded to by a Molly Stokes layup. The home side's lead extended to eight, as the Hounds were not shooting well overall. It was an 11-point lead going into the final quarter, as Assumption only scored nine points in the third.

The lead was up to 13, but quickly Emma Dahl scored on a fast break layup. Despite the offensive firepower, it was not the Greyhounds' night, as they could not convert offense as they like to. Teagan Curran and Amanda Mieczkowski battled towards the end, with Curran nailing a three and Mieczkowski scoring on some free throws. Despite a small heat-up at the end, it was not enough to stop the Golden Knights, as they upset the Hounds 62-55 at home.
