Paragallo and Sullivan power Men's Ice Hockey to sixth-straight win

WATERBURY, Conn – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team used four unanswered goals to soar past the Eagles of Post University and claim a 4-1 Northeast-10 Conference win on the road Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS

Score: Assumption University 4, Post University 1

Records: Greyhounds (9-1-0, 6-1-0 NE10), Eagles (0-6-1, 0-4-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Post got out on the front foot, scoring just 1:24 minutes into the first period. Jake Aloi scored on even strength for the Eagles, assisted by Wyatt Noble and Trey DeLoury. Assumption attempted a flurry of shots within a few minutes after conceding; however, Post controlled most of the first period, outshooting the Hounds 21-13 with 16 of their shots going on net. At the end of the first, Assumption was trailing 1-0.

The visitors dominated the second period, putting three away to turn the game on its head. Ronny Paragallo scored two in a row, scoring his first on even strength to tie the game four minutes into the period. It took 12 more minutes, but Paragallo got on the scoresheet again, this time with an assist from Leo Piandes. On the powerplay, captain Shane Sullivan got in on the action with an assist from Ryan Decker with two minutes remaining in the period. Assumption outshot the Eagles 26-17 in the second period with 20 going on goal, while Thomas McLarnon made nine saves. At the end of two, the visitors held a two-goal lead. 

The third period consisted mainly of back-and-forth action, with neither team able to score anymore until the latter stages of the game, with Sullivan picking up a second on even strength with just 31 seconds remaining. Jonathan Surrette and Patrick McKiernan continued their strong freshman seasons, picking up assists. The Hounds cruised to a 4-1 victory against Post. 

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Paragallo and Sullivan each had two goals, Surrette had two assists, and McKiernan, Lavoie, and Decker each had one.
  • McLarnon made 31 net saves with a .969 save percentage.
  • Assumption outshot Post 66-49, with 45 going on frame compared to 32 from the Eagles.
  • The Hounds also controlled the faceoff battle, winning 39 of 64 draws.
