WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's basketball team shot nearly 60 percent in the second half to edge the University of New Haven 69-65 in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams opened the game by trading early baskets, but Assumption would use a quick 7-2 run to take a 9-4 advantage. New Haven responded with a furious 11-0 run over the next 2:19 to take an early 15-9 lead. The Greyhounds answered slowly as they chipped away at the deficit and eventually regained the lead following a
Kani Glover three-pointer with 1:15 showing on the clock.
Kyle Hicks capped off a tight first half with a buzzer-beating half-court shot, giving the Greyhounds a 32-27 halftime advantage.
Assumption carried their momentum into the second half, as their lead would continue to grow, maxing out at 13 points (44-31) with 14:47 following a
Kasey Draper hook shot. New Haven would slowly chip away at the deficit and would get within one (63-62) following a Davontrey Thomas layup at 2:14. The Greyhounds would go 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and hold off the late surge by the Chargers and pick up a 69-65 win over the defending East Regional Champions.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Assumption shot over 50.0 percent from the field for the fourth time this year (51.9) and is 4-0 in those games.
- Kani Glover led all scorers with 21 points, adding nine rebounds and two assists.
- Kyle Hicks and Kasey Draper each poured in 16 points, while Daouda Dembele chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
- New Haven won the battle on the glass, snagging 34 of 62 rebounds.
- The Greyhounds capitalized on the Chargers' turnovers, scoring 19 points off ten slipups.
- The Chargers still lead the all-time series, 17-12.
