WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team had five players record double-digit points as the Greyhounds capped off 2023 with a 74-58 win over American International College

THE BASICS
Score: Assumption University 74, American International 58
Records: Greyhounds (8-2, 8-2 NE10), Yellow Jackets (8-2, 3-2 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets came out to a solid start in the first quarter, leading 5-0 quickly out of the gate. Assumption started to string points together through Kaijhe Hall, who was having an impressive afternoon on the glass and scoring. AIC had built a small lead, in which the Greyhounds fought back to tie it up 12-12 through a Teagan Curran layup at 4:35 remaining. Heading into the second quarter, it was the visitors who had the slight lead with a 16-14 advantage.

The second quarter was a much-needed bounce back for Assumption, who outscored the Yellow Jackets 24-13. The efforts were led through Marina Callahan and Hall, while Callahan had 10 points and Hall was one point away from a first half double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. At halftime, the Greyhounds led 38-29.

The Greyhounds came alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 21-17 and capitalizing beyond the arc, making three of their six three's. Assumption grew their lead to as much as 20, however AIC would often make small runs to cut the lead back down to ten. Entering the last 10 minutes, Assumption still held a 13-point lead.

The fourth quarter was more of the same, with the Hounds doing enough against a full court press from the visitors. Callahan ended up leading the way with 17 as Assumption returned to action with a 74-58 win at home.
