No. 24 Women's Basketball races past Bridgeport, 67-33

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team used a dominating first quarter that led to a 67-33 non-conference win over the University of Bridgeport

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started fast, as they ran out to a 13-0 lead early in the first quarter while holding the Purple Knights to just 1-for-10 shooting from the field. After starting the frame 7-for-10 shooting from the field and ending the quarter leading 24-7.
 
After a three-pointer by Molly Stokes to begin the frame to go up by 20 (27-7), Bridgeport started to see shots drop in the second quarter and closed the gap to 15-points (29-14). The Greyhounds would halt a comeback attempt with a 13-4 run to close out the first half, with Kaijhe Hall pouring in six in the run.
 
The game started to get away from the Purple Knights as the Assumption defense stymied the visitors' shooters by holding them to 1-for-11 shooting from the field in the third quarter. The Greyhounds were 4-for-6 from the field in the third, which included five points from Amanda Mieczkowski before Bridgeport saw one of their shots go through the rim. After a pair of free throws from the Purple Knights were sunk with 29 seconds left in the third, Assumption carried a 35-point (58-23) lead into the final 10 minutes of action. The fourth quarter saw both sides trade baskets, where Bridgeport outscored the Greyhounds in the frame (10-9), but it would not affect the final score, as Assumption took the game 67-33.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kaijhe Hall recorded her third-straight double-double with game-highs in points (12) and rebounds (11), while Molly Stokes chipped in 12 points.
  • Assumption outrebounded Bridgeport 47-33, while the Greyhounds had 21 assists to just six for the Purple Knights.
  • The hosts shot 42.1 percent from the field while holding the opposition to 19.3 percent.
  • In three home games this season, Assumption is defeating the opposition by an average of 27 points (214-133)
  • The Greyhounds now lead the all-time series 5-4 after winning the last three meetings.
