NEW HAVEN,Conn. – The Assumption University men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 87-81 road win at Southern Connecticut State University Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The battle between the Greyhounds and the Owls started in a back-and-forth affair, with Kani Glover knocking down a big three at 12:54 to give Assumption a slight four-point lead. Njavan Stewart pinched in with a three-ball at 7:57 to provide Assumption with their biggest lead at seven. Solid defense from Assumption down the stretch allowed them to hold this differential for the rest of the half, as they got to halftime with a 45-38 lead. The Greyhounds succeeded in the paint in the first half, outscoring the Owls 20-18. 
 
Assumption began the half in a similar fashion to how they ended it by moving the ball for open shots and locking down on defense. The Owls didn't crack the 50-point mark until the 11:52 mark in the second half, as Logan Bagshaw converted on a layup to make the score 59-51 in favor of the Greyhounds. Isiah Gaiter continued his extremely impressive run of form, as he dropped 26 points to lead Assumption, shooting 11-16 from the field. Two came at 7:17 in the second half, as he knocked down a jumper to keep the lead at six after a small Southern Connecticut run. The Owls got the lead down to as low as two, but a big three-pointer by Glover extended the Assumption lead back up to six with less than two minutes remaining. Assumption kept the lead at eight for those two minutes and forced the Owls to foul, and eventually, they ran out of time. The Greyhounds walked out with an 87-81 win, as they closed the year over .500 and winners in nine of their last eleven.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Isiah Gaiter paced the Greyhounds with 26 points, while Kani Glover and Njavan Stewert chipped in 18.
• Southern Connecticut outrebounded Assumption 37-28, as the Owls outscored the Blue and White 44-36 in the paint.
• The Greyhounds stuck to their name, scoring 16 points on the fast break, while the Owls had four.
