Softball opens 2023 with Sweep of Tiffin

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Assumption University softball team opened the 2023 campaign with a pair of wins over Tiffin University at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE - Assumption University 10, Tiffin (Ohio) 2
Tiffin was the first team to strike, as they plated one run in the second and third inning. The Greyhounds evened the score up in the top of the fourth, as Jaiden Tonucci and Emma Bloom recorded RBIs in the frame.
 
Assumption took their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth as Lauren Geremia scampered home on a wild pitch before Kaitlyn Cahill scored on an RBI from Corin Mahan. Jordan Dwyer drove in Alyssa Johnson with an RBI single in the top of the sixth before the Greyhounds plated five runs in the top of the seventh to pull away for a 10-2 opening day win.
 
Kaelin Waldron picked up the win, as she tossed 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and allowed four hits.
 
GAME TWO - Assumption University 7, Tiffin (Ohio) 4
The Dragons were the first team to strike for the second straight game, as Tara Gall hit a two-run homerun in the top of the first. Assumption responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, as Dwyer scored on an RBI groundout by Mahan. After Tiffin extended their lead to 4-1 with two runs in the top of the second, Cahill tripled home Summer Sheerin.
 
The Greyhounds had their second big inning of the day, as they struck for five goals in the bottom of the fifth. Mahan, Heather Junjulas, and Cahill recorded RBI in the frame.
 
Waldron recorded her second win of the day, as she pitched 6.0 innings of relief. She struck out four batters while scattering four hits.
