Records: Greyhounds (2-3, 1-1 NE10), Purple Knights (4-1, 1-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was a fast-paced, goal affair in Colchester, with the Greyhounds going up 6-3 after the first 15 minutes of action. The visitors had 17 shots, with 11 going on frame in the first period, compared to just eight and six for the home team. Five different scorers contributed to the six goals, with
Ryan Healey burying two.
Healey remained involved in the action, assisting and scoring another in the 2nd quarter to put Assumption up 8-3. The Purple Knights responded with two of their own before
Brady McNulty quieted their slight run with a goal, giving Assumption a 9-5 lead as the game approached halftime. At halftime, the Greyhounds held a 10-6 lead on the road.
The home team woke up in the second half and stormed out on a four-goal run that would tie the game with 5:39 remaining in the third. Drew Collins scored goals 9 and 10, good for his 14th and 15th on the season. Both sides exchanged goals again after the home team took the lead through Collin's third straight, but
Patrik McGrath tied it up at 11-11.
The first moments of the last quarter was very close as both sides looked for a potential game-winning opportunity in a back-and-forth game. With 9:36 and 8:47 remaining, Collins scored his fourth and fifth consecutive goals to give the Purple Knights a two-goal cushion close to halfway through the fourth. McGrath got the Greyhounds with one (13-12) with 1:36 remaining in regulation, but the Blue and White would not find the game-tying tally, as Saint Michael's held on for a 14-12 decision.
