HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Assumption 9, Post 6
After some tough results at home, the Greyhounds came out hitting well in the first inning. Kaitlyn Cahill drove in Lauren Geremia before Heather Junjulas doubled home Jordan Dwyer. After the Eagles plated one run in the bottom of the frame, Geremia tripled home Alyssa Johnson and scored on an error by the Post second baseman.
In the top of the fourth inning, Dwyer broke the game open with a two-run homerun to right field, pushing the Assumption advantage to 7-2. The hosts added one run with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth inning, answered by RBI from Dwyer and Mackenzie Bruggeman. Post added three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Greyhounds hung on and won Game one 9-6.
GAME TWO – Post 10, Assumption 9
Post would begin game two with hot bats, as they plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alyssa Johnson got the Greyhounds on the board in the top of the second inning as she drove in a pair with a single to left center before the Eagles regained a two-run lead (4-2) in the bottom half of the frame.
Dwyer crossed the plate in the top of the third on a Bruggeman groundout. The host responded with a two-run homerun off the bat of Lily Tomasiello, making it 6-3 Post after three full. The Greyhounds would not trail for much longer, as they exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth, as Cahill, Dwyer, Corin Mahan, and Kali Sheerin recorded RBI in the inning to grab a 9-6 lead.
The Eagles slowly chipped away at the deficit as they plated two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 9-9. After not scoring in the top of the seventh, the Greyhounds allowed the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame, as Leyri Rivera scored on a sacrifice fly to right.
