WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University softball team's bats come alive, as the Greyhounds recorded a sweep of American International College Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Marios Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Assumption 8, American International 2
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first in the top of the first, scoring on a sacrifice fly to center field. The score remained the same through two innings, as Alexis Jimenez started strongly on the mound for the visitors. The Greyhounds responded in the bottom of the third, as
Alyssa Johnson scored on the RBI single from
Kaitlyn Cahill to tie the game.
Later in the game, in the bottom of the fourth,
Summer Sheerin singled through the third baseman and the shortstop to score
Corin Mahan, who secured a triple right before that. It did not take long for AIC to respond, as a fielding error allowed Brianna Harzula to score.
With the game coming down to the wire, Cahill scored on a wild pitch followed by a run from
Jordan Dwyer through a
Heather Junjulas RBI, giving Assumption a 4-2 lead going into the sixth. Back-to-back singles in the bottom of the 6
th, followed by good base running, extended the lead to 8-2 in the last inning, with Cahilll continuing her strong day with two RBI. The Yellow Jackets needed more strength in the last inning, as Assumption held on to win game one 8-2.
Kaelin Waldron recorded the win, as she tossed 6.0 innings as she struck out five on two hits and just one earned run.
Anna Tassone pitched a perfect seventh inning, as she struck out one.
GAME TWO –Assumption 9, American International 5
In the second inning of game two, Assumption absolutely exploded offensively. The Greyhounds combined five hits, with RBI coming from
Kaitlyn Cahill,
Mackenzie Bruggemann,
Corin Mahan, and
Summer Sheerin. Cahill continued her excellent form from game one with a bases-clearing triple.
AIC got some back in the next inning, scoring three runs off of Assumption fielding errors. They made it close again in the top of the 4th, scoring two more runs on singles and sacrifice flies. Assumption made sure to close out game two strong, as
Jaiden Tonucci sacrifice fly to right field, scoring
Allyson Wargo. That was all the Greyhounds needed, as they went on to win 9-5.
Tassone recorded the win, as she pitched 4.0 innings in relief with four strikeouts and scattering two hits.
