HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Southern New Hampshire 4, Assumption 1
The opening innings of the contest proved to be a pitching and defensive duel, with the first four innings going by quickly with smart fielding and accurate pitching. It took until the top of the fifth for either team to break the deadlock, and it came through the Penmen. Ari Ferrier doubled to left field, scoring Olivia Mason and Abby Hagerty to put the Penmen up by two. They kept it going through Jordyn Resetar, who singled up the middle to score Bryn Garczynski. Ferrier eventually scored on a fielder's choice as the Penmen put up four runs in the fifth inning. The Greyhounds attempted a late rally in the sixth, as Corin Mahan grounded in Jordan Dwyer, but that's all the offense the Hounds were able to put up in game one. The Penmen took the first one 4-1.
Kaelin Waldron started on the mound going 4.1 innings with three earned runs on three hits. Anna Tassone made a brief appearance facing three batters, and Kya Birtz closed it out, pitching 2.2 no-hit innings.
GAME TWO – Southern New Hampshire 1, Assumption 0
The second game was even more of a defensive battle than the first, with no runs being scored for the first two innings. Southern New Hampshire got on the board for the first and only time of the game with Bella Dickinson hitting a shot off the left-field wall, and she was able to get all the way home to put the Penmen up 1-0. Despite some solid at-bats, the Greyhounds couldn't answer offensively and went down 1-0 in game two.
Anna Tassone pitched the entire game for Assumption, going seven innings and giving up five hits, one earned run, and one strikeout.
