HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Assumption 3, Saint Anselm 2
Assumption came out of the gates super strong in Game One, as
Kaitlyn Cahill hit a deep double to left field to score
Jordan Dwyer, who had previously had an extra-base hit.
Heather Junjulas smacked a single to short, which scored Cahill and put the Hounds up 2-0 after just one. Into the fourth inning, Saint Anselm had not registered a hit yet, and
Lauren Geremia helped add to the lead by reaching on a throwing error that scored
Summer Sheerin. The Hawks provided the rest of the runs on the day to complete the comeback. Ava Caputo singled up the middle to score Hannah Ramer in the fifth inning. With only a couple of outs left, the Hawks attempted the rally in the seventh. In a bang-bang play, the Hounds pulled off a double-play with outs at home and third, to secure the victory, preventing Saint Anselm from tying the game. Assumption pulled through in game one with a final score of 3-2.
Kaelin Waldron went 4.1 innings without allowing a single hit and gave up one earned run with seven strikeouts.
Anna Tassone pitched 2.2 innings with four hits and one earned run.
GAME TWO – Saint Anselm 7, Assumption 3
Similarly to game one, the Hounds got on the board in the first inning again through
Jordan Dwyer, who stole third and advanced home on the throwing error. Saint Anselm responded in the second inning by scoring three runs and getting their first lead on the day.
Corin Mahan would reach on a fielder's choice in the third inning, which allowed Dwyer to score her second run of the game, cutting the Hawks' lead to just one. Through innings four and six, the visitors controlled. They tallied four runs on three singles and a homerun as they continuously loaded the bases and rotated the runners. Assumption gave the comeback an attempt in the bottom of the seventh, with
Raigan Gregoire scoring on a sacrifice fly, but that was all the offense the Hounds could muster. Saint Anselm took game two, 7-3.
