Softball upsets No. 18 Adelphi in Game Two, 2-0

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Backed by great pitching and defense, the Assumption University softball team split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at No. 18 Adelphi University Friday afternoon. After falling in game one 2-1 in the eighth inning, the Greyhounds blanked the hosts 2-0 to take the nightcap.

THE BASICS

Game Two Score: Assumption University 2, No. 18 Adelphi 0
Records: Greyhounds (12-10, 4-4 NE10), Panthers (21-6, 5-3 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Adelphi 2, Assumption 1 – 8 Innings
Game one was dominated by the pitching, as Adelphi's starter, Lindsey Hibbs didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning, where Corin Mahan singled to center. Summer Sheerin doubled down the left field line to plate Reagan Gregoire on the play.

The Panthers scored one run in the second inning on a single to shortstop but were held silent until the eighth inning where Brianna Fischer hit a solo homerun to left center field, walking it off for the hosts.

Samantha Hardwick went 7.1 innings with four strikeouts and scattered six hits.

GAME TWO –Assumption 2, Adelphi 0
Game two was the same blueprint of game one, as the pitching was the story. In the top of the fourth inning, Mackenzie Bruggeman reached on a fielder's choice, as Kaitlyn Cahill scored on the play. Jordan Dwyer came around later in the frame, as she crossed the plate on a Corin Mahan groundout to short.

Kaelin Waldron picked up the win, as she tossed 7.0 shutout innings on 55 pitches. She struckout one while allowing just two hits.
